About the Grade Calculator

We designed this Grade Calculator to be the ultimate tool for students who want to track their academic performance without the headache of complex math. Whether you are a high school student worried about your GPA or a college student trying to figure out if you can still pass a difficult course, this tool gives you the answers instantly. Instead of guessing how much your midterm affected your final grade, you can see the exact numbers in front of you.

Most classes use a "weighted" grading system. This means your homework might be worth 20% of your grade, while your final exam is worth 40%. A simple average doesn't work here. Our calculator handles these weights automatically. You just plug in your scores and how much each category is worth, and we calculate your current standing with precision.

Key Features

We built this tool with features specifically requested by students:

  • Dynamic Rows: Add as many assignments, quizzes, or exams as you need. There is no limit to how complex your course structure can be.
  • Letter Grade Support: You can enter specific numbers (like 88) or letter grades (like B+) directly into the grade input. The tool automatically converts letters to their percentage equivalent using standard academic scales.
  • Weighted Calculation: Accurately calculates grades where different assignments have different values (e.g., Exams are worth more than Quizzes).
  • Final Exam Target: The most popular feature. Simply enter the grade you want to get (like an A or a 90%), and the tool will tell you exactly what score you need on your remaining assignments or final exam to achieve it.

How to Use the Calculator

Calculating your grade is simple. Just follow these steps:

  1. Enter Assignments: Type in the name of your assignment (like "Math Homework" or "Unit 1 Test").
  2. Input Scores: Enter the grade you received in the "Grade" column. You can type a number (e.g., 85) or a letter (e.g., B).
  3. Add Weights: Enter how much that assignment counts towards your final grade in the "Weight" column. For example, if tests are 50% of your grade, enter 50.
  4. Set Your Goal: In the "Desired Class Grade" box, type the final score you are hoping for (e.g., 90 for an A).
  5. Calculate: Click the button. The tool will show your current average and exactly what you need to score on the remaining percentage to hit your goal.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate a weighted grade?

To calculate a weighted grade manually, multiply each grade by its weight percentage (e.g., 90 x 0.20 for 20%). Do this for all assignments and add the totals together. Finally, divide by the total weight of all assignments included so far. Our tool automates this entire process for you.

Can I enter letter grades like A or B+?

Yes! Our calculator accepts both percentage numbers (like 85) and letter grades. If you enter "B+", the tool will automatically interpret that as an 87% for the calculation.

What if my weights don't add up to 100%?

That is normal during the semester! If your entered weights only add up to 80% (because you haven't taken the final exam yet), the calculator will determine your current grade based on the 80% you have completed. It then uses the remaining 20% to calculate what you need to score to reach your target.

What if the "Needed on Final" says "Impossible"?

This means that even if you scored 100% (or higher) on your remaining work, it is mathematically impossible to reach your desired target grade. In this case, try lowering your target slightly to see what is achievable.

Does this tool save my grades?

No. We do not save or record any data you enter. Once you close or refresh the page, your information is cleared. This ensures your academic record remains private.
