Weekend starts finish sooner because the business-day count only begins on Monday. So 10 business days from a Saturday end on the Friday 13 days later.

Calendar days count every day of the week.
Business days count Monday through Friday, and many rules also leave out public holidays. Starting from Friday, October 2, 2026, the three ways of counting 10 days give three different dates.

The third row is later because Columbus Day falls on Monday, October 12, 2026. We follow the US Office of Personnel Management rule for observed holidays, so a Saturday holiday moves to Friday and a Sunday holiday moves to Monday.
What happens when the 10th day falls on a weekend?
Many deadline rules move a weekend end date to the next business day.
Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 6(a) works that way. It leaves out the day of the event, counts every day after it, and if the last day is a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday, the period runs until the next day that isn't.
