Word Shuffler
Randomize the order of words and lines in your text.
About the Word Shuffler Tool
We built the Word Shuffler as a fun and simple tool for randomizing text. Whether you're a writer looking for creative inspiration, a teacher creating a word scramble, or a developer needing to randomize a list, this tool can help. It allows you to instantly rearrange words or lines in your text with different options to control the output.
The tool works in real-time, shuffling your text as you type. You can choose to shuffle every word in a block of text, shuffle the words only within their original lines, or shuffle the order of the lines themselves. It's a versatile utility for any task that requires a bit of randomness.
How to Use the Tool
- Paste or type your text into the "Original Text" box on the left.
- The shuffled text will immediately appear in the "Shuffled Text" box on the right.
- Use the "Shuffle Options" to choose your desired randomization method.
- Toggle "Preserve Case" if you want the shuffled words to maintain their original capitalization pattern.
- Use the buttons to load a sample, copy the shuffled text, or clear the input to start over.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between the shuffle modes?
The three modes give you different levels of control:
- Shuffle All Words: This takes every word from your input and rearranges them in a completely random order, ignoring the original line breaks.
- Shuffle Words within Lines: This keeps your original line structure, but shuffles the order of the words on each line independently.
- Shuffle Lines: This keeps the words on each line in their original order, but randomizes the order of the lines themselves.
What does "Preserve Case" do?
When "Preserve Case" is enabled in "Shuffle All Words" mode, the tool tries to maintain the original capitalization. For example, a word that was originally at the start of a sentence (Title Case) will likely be given Title Case in its new position. This can help the shuffled output look a little more natural.
How "random" is the shuffle?
The tool uses the Fisher-Yates shuffle algorithm, which is a standard and highly effective method for creating a truly random permutation of a finite sequence. In simple terms, every possible order is equally likely, so the shuffle is as random as a computer can make it.
Is the text I enter kept private?
Yes, your text is 100% private. All shuffling is performed directly in your web browser. None of the text you enter is ever sent to our servers, so your information remains confidential and secure on your own computer.
